Qarku i Vlorës – popullimi dhe vendbanimet në prehistori dhe antikitet / Vlora District – population and settlements in prehistory and antiquity

Abstract
Vlora District has an appropriate geographical position; therefore, it has been populated since the prehistoric times. The aim of this study is the identification, recognition, continuity, the importance of population and the settlements in prehistory and antiquity. We referee to the historical documentation, archaeological findings and the descriptions of that time from the native and foreign authors, for creating a clear idea about the population and the settlements of this territory. It has been populated for a long time; that is proved from the presence of materials from the two Paleolithic periods, the medium and late pal eolith. The archaeological material of the Stone Age, that has been noticed until today at the Xarra, San Marena, Konispol stations etc., show that this territory was very appropriate for the living and activity of the primitive human and talk about the involvement of this culture in the wide areal of Southwestern Balkan. The antiquity is identified as the brightest era for this area. In V-I centuries B. C. in this territory it was characteristic the installation with intensity of the urbanization process, which shows an uninterrupted development of settlements, with ups and downs according to the economic, social and historical changes through which they passed.
